General info and Itinerary
This is one wonderful trek in the Himachal Himalayas. The Kurpan valley of Kullu was lesser known before the Shrikhand Mahadev trek became popular. Baga Saharan is a lush green undulating meadow in the upper reaches of the Kurpan Valley. The trek goes from Baga Sarahan upto the Basleo pass which connects the Kurpan Valley with the Thirthan Valley. The trail goes through a lush green meadow, and then into forest of Oak, Rhododendron and Birch. The top is again a lush green clearing with excellent views of the surrounding mountains.
Day 1. Shimla to Bagha Sarahan ( 150 Kms.)
Reach Shimla in the morning, and then drive to Dutt Nagar. The journey is approx. 100 Kms. The Road goes winding though dense green forests and apple orchards. You cross the towns of Kufri and Narkanda. After Narkanda the road starts to descend and eventually you travel along the Satlej river. We cross the River Satlej and enter the Kullu region. We cross the old heritage village of Nirmand on the way. The Road again winds along apple orchards. We reach the wonderful meadows of Bagha Saharan by noon. After lunch we explore the area and go for a short hike along the meadow. Overnight stay in tents at Bagha Sarahan.
Day 2. Trek Bagha Sarahan to Bathad ( 7 kms.) and drive to Jibhi village ( 20 Kms)
Get up to a wonderful day in Bagha Sarahan. After breakfast, we start our trek towards Basleo top. Initially you have to cross a long lush green meadow. After crossing some farms, we start to ascend. There is a small waterfall on the way. The trail goes through a dense forest of oak, and Rhododendron. It’s about 5 Kms to the top. The top is a green clearing in the forest with an all around view. You also have a wonderful view of Baga Saharan from here. After spending some time here we start to descend towards the other side towards the village of Bathad. From here we drive down to the village of Jibhi where we will stay for the night in a comfortable homestay.
Day 3. Trek to Sewolsar lake and back ( 12 Kms.)
Jibhi is a wonderful village in the Thirtan valley, surrounded by a thick forest of Deodar and pine. After breakfast, we start our journey towards Jalori top. Initially we drive for about 8 Kms, and then when yo reach the top of Jalori top, we start or trek towards Sewolsar lake. The trail goes through a forest of Oak and pine. Its a 6 kms walk to the lake. Sewolsar is a beautiful holy lake surrounded by a lush green forest. The lake is not too big in size but the exotic location and the lush greenery around it makes it a must visit location in the Kullu Himalayas. We return to the Homestay in the evening.
Day 4. Drive to Shimla ( 160 Kms.)
Today morning after breakfast we start our journey back to Shimla. Reach Shimla by early evening. Depart for Delhi.
